Herbert Eugene "Gene" Ellison, 83, of Norris City, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on July 26, 1940, in Cottonwood, Illinois, the son of Herbert and Berniece (Taylor) Ellison. Gene married Linda Kay Howard on April 25, 1964. He worked for Production Credit Association and Banterra Bank as an Ag Loan Officer for 32 years. Gene served six years in the Illinois National Guard. His hobbies included, reading westerns, collecting and driving tractors, gardening, and playing checkers.

Gene is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Linda Kay Ellison of Norris City, IL; three sons, Ronald Ellison, Larry (Julie) Ellison and Kevin Ellison; He was the proud "papa" to eight grandchildren, Shealene Ellison, Melanie (Logan) Tharp, Logan Ellison, Ashley (Bryar) Endrizzi, Sarah Ellison, Wyatt Ellison, Jase Ellison and Brody Ellison. He was also a doting great-grandfather to Graham Tharp and Eden Endrizzi. Gene is also survived by two brothers, Donnie (Sandra) Ellison and Gary (Carolyn) Ellison; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Kenneth Ellison.

Funeral services for Gene Ellison will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City with burial at Plainview Cemetery in Norris City. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Gene's memory to St. Judes Children's Research Hopital or Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City, who is in charge of arrangements. Donations can also be mailed to 609 W. Main St. Carmi, IL. 62821.

Gene's Published Obituary: Campbell Funeral Home  Gene served as an officer in ISCA (Illinois State Checker Association) for many years & help sponsor the Illinois State Open, he was also responsible for preserving their championship roster. Gene was an ACF & MCA member.
